Four people died last night in Nairobi after being swept away by flood waters following heavy rains that pounded the city.

Among those who died were a mother and her child who were swept away by flood waters as they attempted to cross a road in Kayole.

On Wednesday morning, another body was recovered in the same area, bringing the total number of those killed in Kayole to three. An 11-year-old boy is also reported to have died at Baba dogo after the house he was in collapsed on him.

CHOLERA CASES

The deaths come barely two weeks after nine people died after a building collapsed on them at Mukuru Fuata Nyayo area of South B, Nairobi following heavy rainfall. Aside from deaths, health officials have also blamed the recent widespread cholera cases to flooding and heavy rainfall.

The rainfall has also been the cause of headache for motorists and commuters in Nairobi by causing heavy flooding of roads and entire streets. Last night, a section of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was submerged, rendering passengers stranded. According to the meteorological department, the rains are set to continue.
